Wapen van Wierum
Het wapen
symboliseert de visserij in het dorp. Het schip is in sabel weergegeven,
aangezien in 1893 het grootste deel van de vloot door een sneeuwstorm werd
verwoest, hetgeen de grootste ramp in de geschiedenis van het dorp was. Een
gedeelte van de vloot spoelde aan op het Amelander strand.

fishes placed two and one". The yellow as land and blue as sea depict accurately

fishing boat has been placed on the coat of arms in black mourning color, over a
blue sea with fishes. The horizontal division gold over blue shows also that
Wierum is on the coast: gold for land, blue for sea. The fishing boat is
specific for Wierum and one can also see it as a wheather-vane in the
church-spire.
